FAQs

General

Is the farm open?

Our farm grounds are currently closed to the public. We are working hard to manicure the grounds and tend to the growing seedlings (baby trees). We are a seasonal agritourism business and will periodically be closed to the public when we are out-of-season. We will update the website with hours of operation when they become applicable.

Didn't this place used to be a golf course?

Yes! We purchased the defunct golf course in 2024 with the goal of transforming it into a beautiful Christmas Tree Farm for the community. Right now, we’re working on reclaiming the grounds from nature and planting trees.

Fraser Fir Christmas Tree Pre-Cut Sale

How can I order a pre-cut tree?

You can order your pre-cut right here. Add the tree to your cart then follow the prompts to use our secure checkout experience. Please note, because we have a limited quantity of trees, we are limiting purchases to one tree per transaction.

Where does the farm get pre-cut trees?

We source our pre-cut trees from small, family-run farms from Michigan or North Carolina.  Our trees will be fresh and should be cut the week before they arrive at our farm.  Our trees should last longer than those found at superstores or big box stores as they often get their trees from larger farms that are much farther away and thus, the trees are cut much earlier.  If properly cared for, our trees should last through the entirety of the month of January or longer.

How will I get the tree that I ordered?

We will hand-deliver your tree to your door if your address is located within zipcodes: 46952 or 46953. If your address is located outside of these two zipcodes, we will contact you to coordinate tree delivery or pickup.  Depending on your distance away from the farm, your tree may need to be picked up at the farm. We will reach out to you to coordinate times for pickup or delivery closer to Thanksgiving.

When will we get our tree?

Our timeline for when we’re able to deliver your tree will depend on the source farm’s schedule as well as other factors such as weather.  We should receive our trees sometime around the Thanksgiving holiday and should then be able to deliver the trees no later than the end of the first week of December.  Once we know the trees are on the way, we will reach out and coordinate a delivery time that is convenient for you.

How many trees are available?

With this being our first year offering trees, we have a limited number of pre-cut trees available. However, additional pre-cut trees may become available to us at a later date. Please join our waitlist if we’re sold out, and we’ll let you know when more trees become available for purchase.

What happens if I join the waitlist?

If we are sold out of pre-cuts, please add your information to our waitlist.  If more trees become available, we will reach out to you via email and/or phone call to let you know more trees are available for purchase.

How do I keep my tree alive?

Keep your tree well-watered!  Please ensure that you monitor your tree’s water intake as it will need water several times per day in the first two to three days.  Your tree will absorb 60% of its water within the first week.  If the water basin or reservoir for the tree’s water runs out of water, the tree will seal off the bottom of its trunk with sap and will no longer be able to absorb water, thus shortening the life of the tree.  Pro Tip: It is best to use warm water when watering your tree during the first few days, especially if it is very cold outside.

What is a fresh cut?

When we deliver your tree, we will offer a fresh cut to be made on the base of the tree trunk in order to enable the freshly cut trunk to absorb as much water as possible to extend the life of the tree. After a fresh cut is made, the tree should be put into warm water as soon as possible (within 2 hours). Please ensure that you monitor your tree’s water intake as it will absorb 60% of its water within the first week.

If you do not plan to put your tree into water immediately after tree delivery, we recommend not getting a fresh cut from us, but instead making your own fresh cut on the base of the trunk just before you put the tree into water.

What if I've never had a real tree before?

Real Tree Q&A

Q: Can I put a real tree on my carpet?

A: Yes! A real tree can be put on any type of flooring: carpet, hardwood, LVP, etc. We recommend putting down something protective like a towel before placing the tree stand onto the floor in case the tree stand water reservoir accidentally gets overfilled.

Q: Can I put lights on a real tree?

A: Yes! You can put Christmas tree lights on a real tree. LED lights are always a safe choice because they don’t omit heat.

Q: Is a real tree a fire hazard?

A: With proper care, a real tree should not be a fire hazard. Keep your tree well-watered and away from heat sources to keep it from drying out. Avoid placing your tree next to a fireplace, portable heater, or radiator, etc. Check your tree’s water daily and keep the reservoir full. The first few days your tree will need to be watered often, after that check the water once per day. After the holiday, once your tree becomes dry, it’s time to take it down.

Q: Will there be a mess?

A: A real tree will drop some of its needles over time, but with proper care and watering, the tree should maintain good needle retention for at least the full holiday season. Different types of trees are known for different needle retentions. Fraser Fir are known for their longevity and excellent needle retention while Norway Spruce are usually cut later because their needles drop more quickly. With a Fraser Fir you can expect to have needle clean up after set up and decorating and after that needle clean up should be minimal or periodic until taking down the tree.

Q: What about small kids or pets?

A: You can have a real tree even if you have small children or pets at home. Depending on the situation and your comfort level, you can take different precautions to keep everyone safe. Options might include putting up a baby gate or fence for separation or putting the tree on a raised surface or a small table so it’s out of reach. Of course, setting expectations and supervising are always key for staying safe.

Q: What do I do with my tree after the Christmas season?

A: St Nicholas Tree Farm will happily accept your Christmas tree for recycling after the holiday season.  There will be a tree drop off area near the front of the farm where you may drop your tree. There are other options for trees disposal as well.  Usually, curbside tree pick up services are provided by local municipalities after the holiday season.  Also, depending on where you live, local recycling centers usually accept the tree for mulching and composting, etc.
